SPHS Career Navigation
High school is more than the final four years of a student’s compulsory education; it is the foundation of a student’s career, whether that career commences with involvement in the military, a trade, a community college, or a four-year university. There are many opportunities to begin the career journey while enrolled at SPHS, including work-based Learning options , internships and apprenticeships, CTE Completer programs complete with industry accreditations, Advanced Placement courses, and dual CCBC enrollment opportunities, among others.
As Sparrows Point High School’s Career Navigator, it is my privilege to work with students and staff to ensure that young adults have the knowledge and support they need to 1) know their interests and values, 2) know what career options exist and 3) know how to get to where they want to be. As Sparrows Point’s Career Navigator, I will:
- Teach lessons about career exploration, vocational discernment, and job skills
- Plan exploratory job fairs, field trips, and workplace tours for students
- Arrange presenters and guest speakers from different career fields, industries, military branches, and area schools and colleges
- Advise students about career-related opportunities, requirements, and procedures
- Liaise with local employers, unions, chambers of commerce, community colleges, and trade schools to discover and develop opportunities for students
- Work closely with our Work-based Learning Coordinator, Transition Facilitator, and College and Career Counselors to provide a comprehensive career education program
If your student expresses curiosity about a career path, uncertainty about which direction to take, or questions about what career opportunities exist, please encourage them to explore the resources below or message me in Schoology or at [email protected]. Please also feel free to pass along any acquaintances you may have in the Baltimore area who are well positioned to engage young people about their field or local business.
I am excited to serve you as your Career Navigator!
